Wedding Day Secrets You Need: Smell Like A Queen!

Hello Reader! First of all, congratulations on your wedding! (if you are a future bride or groom)

Your wedding day is one of the most memorable days of your life, and you’ll want everything to be perfect – including how you smell. I remember mine happened in August, and I knew it would be a very warm day, so I went extra as I was very worried about smelling bad and looking ultra sweaty (which I still probably was, but hey at least I smelled GREAT the whole day/evening, mind you the celebrations started at 3pm until 6am). Feel free to use these tips if you are a wedding guest or attending a special event or party as well.

Feeling fresh and confident is a huge part of enjoying your big day, and I am going to share the tips I used for my extremely warm wedding day.

Table of Contents

    Wedding Personal Hygiene Essentials

I will start with the essentials. Let’s begin with the first step to smelling great on your wedding day, starting in the shower.

    Shower Routine

    • Shower: Use a neutral soap like Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid Soap (Amazon US | Amazon UK) or a gentle body wash such as Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash (Amazon US | Amazon UK) to cleanse your skin thoroughly. This is only step 1 of the whole process.
    • Exfoliate: Incorporate a gentle exfoliating scrub like Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub (Amazon US | Amazon UK) to remove dead skin cells and create a smooth canvas for your scent. This scrub has a pleasant fragrance and leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth. I have a very soft spot for Tahitian smells and in particular for monoi, you should really give those products a try, they smell amazing!
    • Scented Body Wash: Follow up with a moisturizing body wash such as Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash (Amazon US | Amazon UK) to keep your skin hydrated and subtly scented.

    Intimate Hygiene

    • Baby Powder: Apply a gentle talc powder, like Burt’s Bees Baby Dusting Powder (Amazon US | Amazon UK), to keep your skin dry and comfortable. I know this one is a bit of a weird tip, but it will allow to absorb moisture.
    • Protection Pad: Consider wearing a light protection pad to stay fresh throughout the day.
    • Intimate Deodorant: I usually don’t advise using this daily as I don’t think we need it, but between the photos, the heat, and the ceremony, wearing a big dress can be overwhelming. An intimate deodorant can be helpful. (Amazon US | Amazon UK)
    • Intimate Wipes: Just to keep with you, it can come in very handy in general, even to keep on your bag in case an emergency arises. It’s your day, and as you will be looking so beautiful, you want to ensure to feel comfortable and at ease. (Amazon US | Amazon UK)

    Oral Hygiene (in order)

    • Floss: Flossing helps you remove food particles as well as bacteria causing bad breath.
    • Use a Tongue Scraper: This is a game-changer for overall oral hygiene. It removes bacteria, boosts your overall health, and eliminates bad breath. (Amazon US | Amazon UK)
    • Use Mouthwash: Once you have flossed and used your tongue scraper, use a mouthwash.
    • Brush Your Teeth: Use an electric toothbrush, even a cheap one. Once you start using one, you will realise how good they are. Don’t forget your tongue!
    • Use a Whitening Toothpaste: Many people rave about Crest (Amazon US | Amazon UK), but even though it does work on me my teeth are a bit sensitive so I don’t use it but I reckon it’s one of the best for teeth whitening, so my safe option is Arm & Hammer Advanced White (Amazon US | Amazon UK), this one is actually my everyday option as well.
    • Breath Fresheners: Keep breath mints or a pocket-sized breath spray like Listerine Pocketmist (Amazon US | Amazon UK) handy for fresh breath throughout the day.

    Hydrate Your Skin

Moisturize your skin after showering to enhance the longevity of your fragrance. It’s also very good for your skin as it nourishes it, be mindful to pick something that matches your skin type. If you have ultra-sensitive skin, your wedding day is not the time to experiment.

    • Body Lotion: Use a rich lotion that complements your perfume. Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream (Amazon US | Amazon UK) is an excellent option for its hydrating properties and delightful scent of pistachio and salted caramel. Alternatively you could also use a lotion matching your perfume, whichever option feels right to you.
    • Body Spray: Use a body spray that matches or complements your fragrance. I personally used Rituals Hair and Body Mist – I picked 2 good ones I really liked (Amazon US | Amazon UK), rituals products are so nice and classy, whichever one you pick make sure it matches your main wedding perfume.

Choose and Apply Your Wedding Signature Scent

Selecting the perfect perfume is key to feeling special on your wedding day. Make sure to do that some time before the wedding, the time for you to pick your special scent, and to order it.

    Choosing Your Perfume:

Visit a department store to test a variety of fragrances. Opt for a scent that reflects your personality and the season. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle (Amazon US | Amazon UK) or Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede (Amazon US | Amazon UK) are timeless choices with elegant and sophisticated notes. I personally used Lost Cherry by Tom Ford (Amazon US | Amazon UK), which is quite pricey but smells incredible. I’ve never smelled anything as nice as Tom Ford perfumes.

    Applying Your Perfume:

Pulse Points: Apply your perfume to pulse points like your wrists, neck, and behind your ears. These areas emit heat, which helps diffuse the scent.

Layering: Start with a scented body wash, follow with a matching lotion, and finish with your perfume to build a long-lasting fragrance.

    Don’t Skip Deodorant

Deodorant is essential to keep sweat and body odor at bay.

Choose Wisely: Select a deodorant or antiperspirant that suits your skin type and offers long-lasting protection. I used both a roll-on deodorant and a spray one. Remember, you can also use the roll-on deodorant on other body parts, I sometimes apply it on my chest. Make sure to pick an aluminum-free deodorant.

    Hair Fragrance

Don’t forget your hair when it comes to smelling great. This one is important, as personally I was not used to having a big scaffold tower on my head…oopsie I meant “elegant complex hairdo” on my head, and I didn’t want to smell like hairspray.

    • Hair Perfume: Use a hair perfume like Gisou Honey Infused Hair Perfume (Amazon US | Amazon UK) to keep your locks smelling fresh and fragrant. This hair perfume not only adds a beautiful scent but also nourishes your hair with honey extracts.

Freshen Up Throughout the Wedding Day

Keep some essentials on hand for quick touch-ups.

    • Blotting Papers: To manage shine and keep your skin looking fresh. (Amazon US | Amazon UK)
    • Travel-Sized Perfume: Carry a travel-sized version of your perfume for reapplication. Travalo Perfume Atomizer is a great portable option for on-the-go touch-ups. (Amazon US | Amazon UK)
    • Breath Mints or Spray: Perfect for maintaining fresh breath.
    • Wipes: Just because you may feel a bit warm, and being able to wipe your arms, or your neck can feel really refreshing

    Conclusion

I hope these tips helped you a bit. It can seem like a lot, but you want to make sure to be as comfortable as possible, and to not only look gorgeous but feel gorgeous. Also, if you are high maintenance, you could definitely do this on the daily (I often do for special occasions, to be honest).
