I never thought of the concept of a “hair relationship” until I started losing my hair due to psoriasis one year ago. I used to be so ashamed of my naturally curly hair that I would straighten it obsessively. It was only when I started accepting my curls and leaving them natural, realizing that they were part of me, my heritage, and that it was fine to look different, that I started losing them. this was the beginning of my very intense emotionally hair growth journey.
The good news is that it grew back! I have now learned to truly love my hair and accept myself as I am. I’ve collected quite a lot of tips that I have distilled into 5 tips for growing your hair longer and stronger! Hope I can support you in your hair growth journey.
Maintain a Healthy Diet : The forgotten hair growth secret
What you eat plays a significant role in the health of your hair. Try to incorporate foods rich in vitamins and minerals like biotin, vitamins A and C, and omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients are essential for hair growth and strength. It’s always better to try and get your nutrients from your diet, but it’s so hard to keep up. I don’t know about you, but juggling many things means something is always missing, so I use vitamins. Overall, eating healthily impacts your hair density. Remember, though, genetics will also be a factor, but you want to get the most out of what your genes allow you to grow.

You can use your fingers or a scalp massager for a few minutes each day. Honestly, I do it twice a day, and it has become my favorite moment of the day.
What I usually do:
- I spray my scalp with the Weleda tonic (Get it here US | Get it here UK) because I have been struggling to find some rosemary recently. Alternatively, you could boil some water and add some rosemary (I will post the recipe in another article).
- I massage my scalp twice or once a day either with my hands or with a scalp massager, aiming for 5 to 10 minutes a day.

Have a oil bath once a week
Applying oils like coconut, olive, or argan oil to your hair and scalp once a week can deeply nourish and condition your hair, promoting strength and growth. I have been doing this since I was a child, and it is a real game-changer.
How to Choose Your Oil
- Coconut Oil: Suitable for all hair types but can solidify at room temperature.
- Olive Oil: Resembles sebum, providing deep nourishment but can be heavy.
- Castor Oil: Promotes hair growth and adds volume but is very thick.
- Jojoba Oil: Similar to sebum, with a dry finish.
- Avocado Oil: Revitalises hair fibre.
- Argan Oil: Rich in antioxidants but should be stored properly to prevent rancidity.
DIY Simple Hair Oil Blend Recipe:
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil (cold-pressed, virgin)
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil (cold-pressed, virgin)
- 1 tablespoon of castor oil (cold-pressed, virgin)
- 5 drops of rosemary essential oil (optional)
- 5 drops of lavender essential oil (optional)
Instructions:
- Mix the Oils: Combine the coconut oil, olive oil, and castor oil in a small bowl.
- Add Essential Oils: If using, add the rosemary and lavender essential oils to the mixture.
- Warm the Blend: Slightly warm the oil blend in the microwave for a few seconds (make sure it’s not too hot).
- Apply to Hair: Apply the warm oil blend to your scalp and hair, massaging it in gently.
- Leave it In: Leave the oil on for at least 40 minutes, or for deeper conditioning, overnight.
- Rinse Out: Wash out the oil with a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo.

Choose shampoos and conditioners that match your requirements. I would advise you to go sulfate-free, or depending on your needs, you can try keratin or caffeine shampoos. I know a lot of people are very strict on the sulfate-free, but I would say do what works for you. Here’s why I am recommending either of the three options:
- Sulfate-Free: Sulfates can strip your hair of natural oils, leaving it dry and prone to breakage. Sulfate-free shampoos are gentler and help maintain your hair’s natural moisture balance.
- Caffeine Shampoos: Caffeine stimulates hair follicles and can help promote hair growth by improving blood circulation to the scalp.
- Keratin: Keratin is a protein that makes up your hair. Using keratin-infused products can help strengthen and smooth your hair, reducing frizz and breakage.

Protect Your Hair at Night
Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction while you sleep, which can prevent breakage. Alternatively, wrap your hair in a silk scarf. These materials are gentler on your hair than cotton, reducing frizz and preventing tangles. Make sure to change your pillowcase at least once a week, and to wash your bonnet or scarf regularly. If you don’t wash your hair scarf or bonnet regularly, bacteria is likely to transfer to your hair and scalp, and it may smell a bit funky.
